The Mercedes I was a 194-foot long German freighter built in 1952 that washed ashore on West Palm Beach during a storm 23 November 1984. The owners abandoned her leaving the state to foot the bill. With the assistance of a contractor, she was eventually towed off the beach three months later. On 30 March 1985, the Mercedes I was sunk as an artificial reef. She now sits in 100' of water one mile offshore of Ft. Lauderdale.
