The tanker W.E. Hutton was torpedoed by the U-124 on March 9, 1942. Long misidentified as the tanker Ario, the W.E. Hutton actually rests further offshore at the site believed to be the Papoose. However, information has determined that the Papoose drifted north and sunk in 200 feet of water off Oregon Inlet.
The Hutton now rests upside down in 120 feet of water.
