The Clythia or "Marble Wreck" was a 214' long
iron-hulled bark that ran aground just north of the North
Carolina border 22 January 1894. Carrying a load of Italian
marble (hence her alias), the Clythia was heavily salvaged
during the 1960s. She lies just outside of the surf zone in 20'
of water. However, at low tide, much of the wreck protrudes from
the water surface, easily revealing her location. Due to her
proximity to shore, visibility may be minimal, while surge and
current may toss a diver amongst the jagged metal wreckage.
