Built in 1922 at Morris Heights, New York, the LV-105 was a 146 foot long lightship.  From 1922 - 1942 she was stationed on Diamond Shoals, North Carolina.   In 1942, LV-105 was moved to the Chesapeake Bay approaches to serve as an examination vessel during World War II.  She was rammed by a barge and sank off Cape Henry adjacent to the main shipping channel July 20, 1944.

Due to her proximity to the channel and the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay that present significant shipping traffic and current, the wreck is seldom dived.  She is upright and intact.
