SHIPWRECKS OF THE SUNSHINE STATE!
Built in 1922, the Amazone was a 255' long Dutch freighter with an ~37' beam. On May 6, 1942, she was en route from Curacao to New York with a cargo of coffee and oil when a torpedo from U-333 slammed into her side. The Amazone now rests in 90' of water off Ft. Pierce with washouts along her hull. Portholes may occasionally be found on the wreck. Although small, the wreck can attract abundant marine life and is worth a visit.
