AUE IDENTIFIES THE WRECK OF THE S/V KRINGELINE

By removing extensive encrustation on the starboard bow, we were able to identify the above wreck as the sailing vessel KRINGELINE.  She rests in over 300 feet of water off Boca Inlet, Florida.  As yet, we have been unable to determine the history of this vessel.  Stay tuned...

UNDERWATER IMAGES OF SEA DIAMOND

Images taken by an ROV of the sunken Sea Diamond.  Depth display would indicate a good portion of her rests above 350 feet (107 m).  In the aftermath of the Sea Diamond's sinking on April 6, six crew members, including the captain, were indicted on charges of unintentional shipwreck and violation of international regulations to avoid crash and pollution.

In other shipwreck news, the scheduled reefing of the 1944-built Texas Clipper (ex-USS Queens, Excambion) has been postponed a month to the middle of May.  For more information, check out the official Texas Clipper website.

FUCKING RIDICULOUS

Got a shitload of money to spend on a watch?  Swiss company Romain Jerome is offering their TITANIC-DNA watch, which supposedly uses authentic steel and coal from the fabled wreck. Depending on the watchcase, which comes in platinum or gold with elements of titanium, ceramic, and composite materials or rusted steel, the price tag for this puppy ranges between $7,800 and $173,100.

DID YOU PACK THE DRAMAMINE?

Amazing footage of the M/S Voyager, a 592-foot long liner that got caught in a cyclone while on a cruise between Spain's Balearic Islands and Sardinia in February 2005.  The vessel radioed a distress signal after a bridge window was smashed out by the massive seas, damaging her controls.  And yes, the 733 passengers were a bit uncomfortable.

Latest update on the wreck of the Sea Diamond indicates she is turtled and resting in approximately 330 feet of water.

WORKING THE PECONIC

The past couple weeks has seen some activity on the wreck of the Peconic (sunk in 1905), offshore Cumberland Island, Georgia.  Using an airlift, divers were able to sweep away over 100 years of sand and copious amounts of coal to find over 100 bottles, china, ceramics, portholes, bullets, the inclinometer, portions of a sextant, an engine room telegraph, and the ship's wooden helm!  When the helm stand was recovered almost two years ago, the wheel was missing.  Here are a couple images courtesy of Dan Martinez:

UPDATE ON THE SEA DIAMOND SINKING

According to Maritime Matters, the wreck of the Sea Diamond lies in 140 meters of water, with her bow just 5 meters from the surface.  The image at below right notes the sinking location in the Bay of Athinios, along with the 100-meter bathymetric contour.  Maximum depth in this area of the Santorini caldera is 155 meters.

LOSS OF THE SEA DIAMOND

On April 5, 2007, the 469-foot long cruise liner Sea Diamond struck the rocks off the island of Santorini, Greece, and sank the following day close to shore.  Thankfully, only two passengers were reported missing after the evacuation of nearly 1,600 passengers and crew.

By the way, the airing dates of the two History Channel documentaries on the Britannic, "Titanic's Doomed Sister" and "Titanic's Achilles Heel," has been pushed back to May 2007.
